The New Face of Sport Entrepreneurship

The mix of entrepreneurship and physical workout might seem a far-fetched concept for some. However, sport and entrepreneurship have long been running mates putting it succinctly.

Sports men and women who engage in one form of sport or the other as a career are entrepreneurs. What they are selling? Physical fitness. As the day goes by it becomes more and more lucrative with athletes earning staggering amounts of money. Getting a piece of that pie is a lofty ideal but pretty much out of the reach of many.

Sport entrepreneurship also does have a humanitarian side to it. There are sport movements and organizations whose sole objective is the improvement of the human spirit and condition. One of such is the Music Run Nigeria movement.

Music Run Nigeria is a movement geared towards improving the mental state of the youth via music and physical fitness. It is powered by My Garden City; a brand that focuses on showcasing the beauty and sights of Port Harcourt city and rewriting the narrative. It was founded and run by a fine gentleman and budding socio-preneur Mr. Woji Henry. We met with their media representative and she gave us a lowdown on what their movement is all about.

“Music Run is the loudest, most colourful and exciting 5kilometre run, music and fitness festival and we intend to have 5000 people participate.
The routes will be decorated and speakers would be lined up along the route so people run with the music. 5 different genres of music, less speed and more fun. Bikers, skaters, cyclists, dancers and horses would be in attendance and the proposed location is Pleasure park, the festival village(Port Harcourt). We will extend this event to other regions of the country”.

Why Music Run?

“A study completed by researchers indicated those who biked while listening to music were able to exert far more energy than anyone else.
.
The results were prominent thus the IMPORTANCE OF RUNNING WITH MUSIC and Power of Music and Fitness. Music is culturally universal, and is very popular among youths. It serves as a memory creator and enhancer; it motivates participation, boosts performance and lifts the tempo of life.

.
Research also shows that incorporating running and other forms of exercise with music increases participant’s performance by 15%. It also increases motivation and physical performance.
.
Healthy practices such as physical activities are a determinant to a healthy lifestyle for youths and other members of the society.
.
Physical activities like running, jogging, cardio exercises, and so on help reduce obesity related risks, risk of cardio vascular and other chronic diseases, while also strengthening the muscles, improve bone mass and enhance the overall wellbeing of individuals. .
.
Running is as much a mental activity as it is physical.
.
One of the most common mental benefits of running is stress relief. Running can boost your body’s ability to deal with stress and it’s also a good distraction from any problems that are causing you stress or worry. It’s a natural solution to the “flight or fight” reaction we experience when dealing with stressful situations.
.
The rhythmic and repetitive nature of running can also be very relaxing and soothing. You can focus on your breathing and the sound of your footstrikes, and then begin to forget about whatever was bothering you. Running allows you to zone out and rebalance yourself after a stress-filled day.
.
When stress hits, many runners lace up their running shoes, hit the road, and soon find they’ve improved their mood and released some of their frustrations. As an all-natural, simple, effective, and cost-efficient remedy, running is one of the best ways to effectively deal with stress, insomnia, anxiety, depression, and even addictioHIV
.

Depression, mental illness is real. It is as real as HIV and Above are some of the medically proven reasons that were taken into consideration and eventually led to the birth of this project.
.
We are happy to have you on board and together we shall bring to reality the depression/ mental awareness movement.
.
Our target is 5000 youths in Port Harcourt running 5kilometres with LOUD MUSIC.”
